This Week in a FLASH!

What a fast week! School's in session, and the kids & I are finally settling into a routine. Today, Dylan saw the pay-off of studying and making note-cards for his bold terms! He received A's and B's on his 1st quizzes, and is thrilled about it! Whew!...I must admit, I was starting to worry about that one!
Ashley had her first Biology Lab. Simple enough that Dylan could join in. It was a Taste Test following the steps of the scientific method. We had to make sure we limited the variable, so we selected 4 different brands of O.J.
BTW: If you are ever wondering which is the best tasting... from best to worst: Florida's Natural, Minute Maid, Tropicana, Safeway Brand!
Puppies are missing all the attention they've been getting over the summer. It's funny watching Cody playing with Shelby, he's smaller, but faster. He can squeeze between and behind things Shelby can't.
And it completely cracks me up when he gets on top of her and attacks! They always pause the play when someone walks in the room, and their food/water bowls are the "time out" area!
Oh, yeah! The bargain of the week! Shawn is often bringing home "stuff" his customers are giving away. He calls them treasures, and sadly, I refer to them as clutter. Well, yesterday, he brought home a Sony TV (4 yrs. old)! Way better than the 10 yr. old 150 lb. one we had! We removed some shelves and a divider in the entertainment center & wallah! It fit! WAY TO GO BABY!

O' Noooo! IT CAN'T BE!!!!

IT'S TIME FOR......
BACK TO SCHOOL!!!

This will be yet another year of transition for Ashley! She is switching from A BEKA Academy DVD to B.J. Press DVD curriculum's! This 10th grader has her plate full this year too! She's taking Bible, English, Geometry, World History & Geography, Biology w/Labs, and Spanish I!
Dylan is pouting. This year we've determined to focus on completing all assignments and building good study habits! He is LOVING all the note cards, he's been writing so far! Do you see his brain swelling with all that knowledge??? Please keep the kids, our homeschool, and especially ME in your prayers as you think of us throughout the year!

Summer Weekend!

What a beautiful weekend! Plenty of sunshine, mid 80's, blue sky's! Once again we were off to the beautiful waters of the Chesapeake Bay. We hit the bike trail early Saturday morning. Then went down the shore (family beach house.) Mom and Dad surprised us by having some steamed crabs for lunch! Yummmmmmmmmy!
Poor little Cody had blisters on his tender paws. He had to wear some booties, and stay out of the water & rough / hot sand. He didn't mind. They made him look even more adorable than usual, so he got lots and lots of attention!
Shawn enjoying the sunshine, and rest. He's been doing puppy duty at night along with working every day so he's been pretty tired.
Mom and Dad enjoying the family time with us.
Cody and Dylan, little cuttle bugs.
Janice and Bob (long-time friends of the family) came down for some playtime. We usually get together for a visit at least once a year, and they generously let everyone play with their jet skis. This year we met a little earlier and went for a lunch cruise to Cantler's Riverside Inn, in Annapolis. We took the long way (circling the island), and stopped for a wave to Uncle Mark (at his house).
Popeye's boat was anchored in the Annapolis harbor! Wonder if his horn goes "toot, toot?!"
We took a little sight-seeing detour to Annapolis Docks, and through the Bay Bridge. It was afternoon by the time we pulled back into the marina and headed down the shore.
When we got there, the ski's were ready and waiting, and so were the kids. (I think Dylan waits all year for this, he's been doing it since he was a baby!) Ashley was allowed to drive without adult supervision for the first time this year. She was loving it! Very good driver too!
The big kid (who also waits all year for this) was dying to go play too.
This is a VERY SCARY picture!!!
Janice and Ashley took a drive over to the marina. (Ooops! We forgot the keys in the boat!) It's just around the corner, but a nice cruise as well.
Yes, I too enjoy the ski's! They are a blast to drive!
Ashley taking a spin all by herself... alone! My babies are growing up!
Shawn enjoying the sunset over the water.
Mom relaxing after a long day on the water!
Janice and Dad talking and catching up. Thanks Mom, Dad, Janice & Bob for sharing this beautiful day with us! We truly enjoyed every minute!

Simon & Tim's Visit!

My cousins, Simon and Tim, came home for a visit the 2nd weekend in August. Simon, spent this past year with his wife in Japan, teaching English. He's on his way to Nicaragua for 27 months with the Peace Corps! Tim is transferring from the Post Office in Nebraska to California. He's looking forward to returning to school, taking some upper level Physics courses. (He's the "brain" in the family!)
Simon was playing with his new underwater Olympus camera. It takes some really good pictures! If you can't recognize him, this is Dylan in our pool.
We went to meet up with Tim on the Eastern Shore. He was driving from N.Y. (visiting his friend), to MD thru Delaware. We were planning to meet for a quick boat ride, but we hit major traffic both east and west on US-50.
The cause of the traffic was an accident on the east bound bridge. A tractor trailer, hauling frozen chicken, swerved to miss an accident on the bridge at 4:00 am that morning! It actually went off the bridge, so they only had the west bound side open. The traffic was backed up for miles and miles. Even with taking all the short cuts we knew, it still took us 2 1/2 hours to get to Kent Island! Amazingly, Tim only had about a 10 min. wait for us, after sitting in traffic traveling west for hours.
It was nice to get out, eat, and walk around the marina.
We only had time for a quick cruise to get some ice cream.
Tim (and I) were a little nervous dodging isolated thunder storms! The Lord took good care of us, and we missed the rain & lightening!
The captain and I, enjoying the visit.
Late that night we got into a grueling game of Monopoly. Things are back to normal (see Summer Vacation 2008 - McClard visit). Shawn was back to his usual money/property hungry self. Simon and Tim united and gave him a fight. I was taken by Tim after he bargained for Boardwalk and built hotels. One hit and I was gone! O well, at least the world is back on its axis again!
Monday, they enjoyed visiting with my parents, Aunt Grace and Grandmom.
They went for a walk around the farm. (Their old stomping grounds!)
Then, Monday night they headed back to N.Y. The visit was short, but very sweet. We are hoping to have dinner with Simon and Kara in D.C. while they're doing their training, before heading to Nicaragua in Sept.

Congratulations Brian & Tiffany!

Shawn's cousin, Brian, got married to Tiffany on August 7th at Kent Manor Inn in Stevensville, MD. It was one of the most beautiful ceremonies I've ever attended.

The ceremony opened with adorable Candice, the flower girl (Brian's niece). She was quite hesitant & decided to just dump the petal basket along the way!

And, surprisingly, we are now related, by marriage, to Steve and Mikey (Tiffany's cousins!) They've spent some time at our church, and worked for Shawn a couple years ago.

Ephesians 3:14-19

"For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen."
